What is a Suspension Seatpost?
A suspension seatpost is a specially designed bicycle seatpost featuring shock absorbing construction that helps smooth out bumps in the terrain and reduce the impact to the rider. They are best suited for gravel biking and bikepacking applications but are also used on road bikes to help riders stay in the saddle through rough roads.Ā
The Shockstop suspension seatposts feature a proprietary parallelogram design, which allows for the suspension to remain active even when you're seated and pedaling. This means that you can benefit from the suspension's smoothing effect even when you're putting down power, unlike some suspension seatposts that become rigid when you're pedaling. Different bikes sometimes have different seatpost diameters. The ShockStop Suspension Seatpost comes in 27.2mm diameter, so if your bike's seatpost is a different size, you'll need a shim to allow the 27.2mm size to adapt to your bike's frame. Don't worry though, the shims are super-lightweight and essentially invisible once installed.
Not sure what size seatpost you have currently? There are a couple different ways to find out.
ā¢ Most seatposts have the diameter printed somewhere near the bottom of the post. You'll need to remove the seatpost from the bike frame (mark your existing seatpost height with a bit of tape before you remove it so you can replace it easily), and look for a number like 27.2, 30.9, or 31.6 (etc.). That is the diameter of the post.
ā¢ If you know the make, model, and year of your bike, you may be able to look up the seatpost diameter online. Feel free to shoot us an email at info@redshiftsports.com - we'll see if we can help out.
ā¢ Ask your local bike shop - they'll be able to accurately measure your bike's seatpost.
Non-compatible posts: Unfortunately, if your bike's seatpost is smaller than 27.2mm (for example, the 25.4mm posts found on some recent model Cannondale Synapses) our seatpost is currently not compatible with your bike. Likewise, if you have a bike with an aero/oval/non-round seatpost, or if your bike has an integrated seatmast, the seatpost is also not compatible.
What length should I choose? 280mm or 350mm?
Measure your current seatpost from the clamp collar to the saddle rail:
- If that distance is less than 205mm, you can use the 280mm suspension seatpost.
- If it is between 205mm and 250/275mm (depending on diameter) order the 350mm size.

This is a great addition to my gravel bike. It took a few adjustments to get the right elastomers but, it definitely smooths out the ride. Will be purchasing a set for my road bike.

I hesitated buying this stem wondering would it work, was it a waste of money but Iāve had three off road rides with my new stem and I love it. I usually get pins and needles in my hands after riding for a while but thatās gone now. Added to the comfort is the improved handling on bumpy tracks and roads. I can ride a corrugated road now without feeling like I will get shaken off the bike. Very happy.

I just finished my first ride with the Resdhift Shockstop Suspension Stem and I noticed the difference immediately. Having ridden for many years with rigid front ends (Iām 64) I now wish I had discovered this earlier in my life. The chatter that it removes from my wrists, arms and shoulders is easily noticed. This experience has been so good that now Iām considering the seatpost Redshift offers as well. The interesting thing for me is that Iāve promoted and sold these products for years based upon input from others. I just didnāt think I needed one myself. Get yourself one! Youāll never go back.

The shock absorber was easy to install and works as described cuts down on the impact. I recommend it if you're going to do gravel, writing and bumpy bumpy roads

Wow, once I got the fit dialed on this seat post I thoroughly understood why everyone was upgrading their set ups with these products. Riding a long distances is what I do for fun and for a living and this seatpost made all the difference in the world. Pay attention to the recommended Sag settings as its key to finding comfort and keeping a proper pedaling extension. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
